SDE: J&L Got Hitched!

My Choice of Music

While I am at it, I’d like to say my reasons for some of the music/songs I chose during the wedding.

Canon in D for the bridal march was suggested by a colleague. Told him I was looking for a song that was different (meaning not used by Everyone! hehe!!). In my mind it was that plus it should have a sound of ‘drama’. Will not elaborate but you know what I mean..

I checked out Canon in D in YouTube but initially didn’t like it. It sounded boring. I kept on searching for wedding songs until I realized I wanted not a song but pure music for the processional. I am not into music so spare me on how I differentiate one from the other (song was with lyrics but music was purely that..music! haha! I give up!).

Anyways, there I looked for some music played in paino/violin for the ‘drama’ effect I was looking for. That was when I found the version i super like. Sorry, I looooooove!!!

So that was the story of my bridal march music.

For J’s music and the entourage, I decided on A Thousand Years.

Yes, it was one of the most common wedding song if not the most common! The melody was perfect for the ‘drama’. So I chose it! However, I decided on the piano/violin version (of course without the lyrics so it wasnt common!).

I own those two! No, not their rights.

I just felt that The wedding was perfect because I made the right choice when I decided on the two most important music in our wedding.

So I am sharing as well the version of The Piano Guys of Christina Perri’s A Thousand Years.

As I Walked Down the Aisle..

Been married for more than three months and I havent gotten over my wedding blog entries. In fact, I think, I havent started in fulll swing.

For now I am sharing the accompaniment when I walked down the aisle.

Canon in D was not only my bridal march music, it has become my to-go/comfort music whenever I want to relax my mind and calm my nerves.

Listen and you’ll like it as much as I do..

Before THE Big Day

April 4, 2014.

A day before the wedding, when I should have been just pampering myself and resting, I was attending several last-minute chores.

My initial itineray was to pack my things in the morning, pick up my gown, visit the dentist, have my eyebrows threaded, have my mani and pedi, and finally have a massage and body scrub. After those, check-in to the hotel and just enjoy the rest of the day.

But this was what happened..

I woke up early but couldn’t get myself to get up (was super tired from the previous day). While preparing to go to the dentist, J asked if I could meet his friend, one of the bridesmaids, who would fit (for the first time since she was based in Singapore) her gown and get the Jack Daniels she gave us. I went and ‘assisted’ (more like just showing myself up!).  While she was fitting, I settled my balances.

I brought the JD home and then went to my bestfriend’s clinic to have my prophylaxis.

It was almost 11am when I finished. I needed to leave the house at 2pm so we could check in at 3. It would take me an hour to reach the massage and spa salon, two hours to complete the treatment and another hour to get home.  That meant I would be home by 3pm and still pack my things.  Since Shobe would just follow, I asked my uncle to bring us to the hotel. We agreed at 2pm because he still had another appointment.

So from the clinic, I headed home and packed my things. I finished packing at 2pm in time to leave the house.

I was with the two elders, my mom and my aunt, and my nephew.  It meant I had to attend to myself and them.

After checking in, I intended to go to the mall to buy the fruits for offering, lime and lemon for the cocktails, and have my nails done.

But since J and his family were on their way and their room key was with me, I couldnt leave.  I couldnt rely on my mom and my aunt to assist J because they were afraid of operating the elevator.

When J arrived we still had to arrange our dinner. It was the two of us who even ordered the food for 15pax!

After dinner, J’s mom and I went out for our mani/pedi. We were looking for a solan near the hotel but one was already closed while the othet one only had one manicurist. So we decided to go to the mall instead. Was praying that it was still open since it was already 9pm.

Fortunately one salon still accommodated us but only one of us could avail the foot spa because it was almost closing time.

When we returned, J and I still had to finalise the seat assignment (and I should tell you it wasnt easy!!) while J’s family were packaging the favors and cutting out the table numbers.

Late into the night, I texted my aunt (my father’s sister) to tell her not to leave early so they could just go straight to the church. However, when I texted they were already on their way. It was one of my major worries then since I wasnt sure where to direct them to proceed. I wasnt hesitant to direct them to the hotel since I wasnt very sure of the hotel’s leniency towards the maximun number of guests. What I did then was to direct them to my another aunt’s house which they were more familiar with.

While all this was happening, my mom was bugging me to go up and rest. But could I when there were still things to be done and I was waiting for my family coming from the province. I didnt have anyone to delegate the tasks to.

And so at around 3am on my wedding day, I finally got to sleep and rest!

My Girls Said Yes!!

After several weeks of hesitating, I finally had the courage and confidence to ask my friends to be my bridesmaids!

And they all said Yes!!

When I was younger and my friends were starting to get married, I told myself that my bridal party would just be the remaining single ladies. In recent years, though, I told myself that I would just get one from highschool and one from college. How I was going to choose? Drawlots!!! Hahaha! Sssshhh…tHe real reason was except for one, all my bestfriends are married now which means I wouldnt have bridal entourage! Lol!!

While planning this wedding, though, something changed! I wanted ALL my bestfriends with me!! But since I didnt want them shouldering the gowns, I hesitated asking.

Anyways since they all agreed, I am now writing this entry.

From highschool: Cat, Che, Jane. If only Jeng were here, she will definitely be with us!
From college: Anne, Cris, Ryah.
These two groups know me inside out and even though I dont get to see them often, these ladies are for keeps!

I also have two additional: Candy and Majo who are both J’s friends. Majo was instrumental in our courtship while Candy is part of our love story (she has been with from day 1 and who, together with her family, is our constant companion and travel buddy.

I want everything simple but different for our wedding. So when I was searching the net for pegs of their gowns, I was attracted to non-traditional dresses (at least here in the Philippines).

Below are my pegs:

However, I discovered that my fiance is the traditional type! So at the end we decided on a traditional chiffon cocktail dresses. Its ok atleast it passed the ‘simple’ requirement! 🙂

Where the Dining and Drinking Is

You know that I would have wanted a beach wedding which means beach party which means free-spirited party-ing! I knew all this time that I would never hold the reception at a hotel function room and, I guess, any closed space. I once attended a wedding in a hotel and I really felt claustrophobic and the party stiff. It felt like any small wrong move and I’ll be reprimanded, worse, be accused of having no manners. From then on, if ain’t the beach it will be just a garden reception.

When we visited the Guadalupe church, we also checked out its courtyard. It was small, a little dark, perhaps, for my taste. It can hold ideally 150-200 guests (athough we knew one event that it accommodated 250 or a little more BUT it already looked and felt cramped). The rent at PhP10k is beyond reasonable compared with those venues that charged for more that that. However, I did not fall for it at the first sight.

I tried to check other venues within Makati and here were what I considered:

Filipinas Heritage Library

Filipinas Heritage Library

The Filipinas Heritage Library Garden is available venue for events including weddings. Since I love books, might as well hold it somewhere that represents my love for reading. It good for intimate weddings since it can hold a small party, it IS at the heart of Makati and the lights from Ayala and nearby buildings can add to its charm especially for reception. More preferred venue when wedding is during the Christmas season when all of the Makati Business District is well-lighted. I wasnt able to inquire about the rates, though, and I am not sure of the parking spaces.

Kasalikasan, The Fort @ BGC

Kasalikasan is located within The Fort and near our church. I tried to inquire thru email but they did not answer about the rates. i think they prefer a personal inquiry. I had to say, though that the people I exchanged email with were both very accommodating.

I guess the reason I did not pursue to inquire about the two venues was because I was trying to be practical.

At the end I decided on the Nuestra Señora de Gracia Parish courtyard. One, as mentioned, the rental fee was very affordable and reasonable compared with others. Second, it will save time for us couple and guests. Instead of driving from church to the venue in another location, it can be the cocktail hour so the guests can mingle and drink. It gives us ample time for the party and, of course, means an early dinner. Imagine the time for cocktails if the reception is held in another venue can be our dinner time! It also has ample parking space!

Here is the courtyard:

And here are our pics when we reserved for the church and the venue:

The Wedding

As my friends and the few (yet) of my followers know, I just got engaged. Im supposed to create a separate blog that will document the preparation and all the other wedding details and journalize our thoughts and emotions as we check, meet and nego with suppliers and scout for our wedding supplies but decided to just add another category.

I will be sharing the details here under The Wedding soon. For now here are two reminders for soon-to-be brides like me:
